Following modern concepts central nervous system diseases such as epilepsy, infantile cerebral paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, some kinds of tremor have a cerebrovascular origin. The studying process of relationships between three functional micro-subunits of central nervous system, i. e. neuron-glial cells-microcirculatory bed, in the complex of thalamic nuclei is of great theoretical and practical concern for better medical treatment of neurological patology. The study was designed to estimate special connection features in the system: neuron-glial cells-microcirculatory bed in the ventrolateral thalamic nuclear group depending on sex and age. The study was performed on 31 thalami obtained from 20 men and 11 women aged 30-87 years without any neurological pathology. For better demonstrative presentation results obtained after estimating of neuron density, glial cells density and capillary density in the slides of thalami of men and women of different age groups were normalized with the density of neurons (i. e. was found out what glial cell density and capillary density were referred to one neuron density unit. Quantitative analysis revealed that relative glial cell density was increased up to 38% on average towards the neuronal density in the same age group in relation to the following age group. The last age group showed significant increase in the relative glial cell density of 170%. The same tendency was revealed in the women’s age groups. The last women’s age group showed less increase in relative glial cell density compared with men and was detected at the level of 125%. The male relative capillary density also was increased by 20% in the first five groups and jumps up 80% in the last sixth age group. The relative capillary density increasing in women occured irregularly and was accounted for 46% passing to the last age group. Morphological peculiarities of glial cells in both sexes were not detected. Neuron-glial cell ratio was 1:10,8 in women and 1:11,9 in men that could be influenced by more active metabolic activity in the male brain. It ought be noted that male thalamus had got more significant vascularization: one male neuron was supported by 9. 8 capillaries on average, one female neuron – by 8. 8. Topology estimation between estimated values in gender groups made with the help of factor analysis revealed that neuro-glial-capillary relationships in men and women were based on the same principle. Only minor differences in factor loading were present and factor correlations with estimated values (neuronal, glial and capillary densities) were significant and strong. The coefficient of determination between factor loadings of estimated values in men and women was 94% that confirmed absence of reliable differences in the communication structures. The present study demonstrates that neurons, glial cells and capillaries form an integrated functional system, which features depend on age and doesn’t depend on sex. The same value changes of neuro-glial-capillary relationships are observed in ventrolateral thalamic nuclear group with increasing age in both men and women. Gender differences are confined only in the degree of their manifestation.
