Analysis of Health Indicators Under Sector Reform in Poltava Region

Annotation:

Health indicators analysis has been carried out in Poltava region. Health indicators have been studied according to the following indices: vital statistics, sickness rate, and physical disability. Population size, both in the region and in Ukraine, was steadily reducing during the past twenty years, and its natural decrease is the result of excess number of deaths above the number of births. It has been estimated that at October, 1, 2013 the population of Poltava region was 1460, 8 thousand people, that 6990 people less than at the beginning of the year. Overall birth rate per 1,000 people constituted 9. 6 in Poltava region, whereas in Ukraine this coefficient constituted 11. 0. Death rate per 1,000 people of existent population constituted 16,5. In the structure of causes of death the first place be- longed to diseases of the circulatory system (68. 3% of the total number of deceased), second place belonged to oncological diseases (14. 1%), and the third place belonged to external causes of death (5. 8%). Over the past two years circulatory system sickness rate was decreasing by 3. 0% and amounted for 7767,8 per 10 000 of the adult population of the region (in 2012 it was 7903,1 in the region and 6998,5 in Ukraine). In 2012 circulatory system sickness rate was nearly 5,5% (491,6) down from the 2013, when this rate constituted 470,6 per 10 000 of the adult population (in 2012 it constituted 596,2 in Ukraine). Circulatory system disorders death rate was nearly the same as it was last year and constitutes 1200,1 in com- parison with 1201,9 in 2012 per 100 thousand of the adult population (in 2012 it constituted 960,2 in Ukraine). According to tentative data in 2013 cancer rate per 100 thousand people constituted 353,2 versus 374,2. Yearly mortality from cancer constitutes 30,0% versus 32,0% in 2012 among newly-admitted cancer patients. In Poltava region tuberculosis sickness rate was 0,5% down from the previous year and constitutes 60,2 versus 60,5 per 100 thousand people (in 2012 it constituted 68,1in Ukraine). From the moment when the first case of HIV- infection was detected in the region in 1987 and at 01. 01. 2014 it has been registered 5017 cases of HIV-infection, including 1627 cases of AIDS diseases and 799 AIDS-related deaths. During 2013, 80 patients died and AIDS death rate constituted 5,5 per 100 thousand people that is 43% down from the previous year. In 2013 HIV-infection prevalence rate constituted 188,0 per 100 thousand people (in 2012 it was 168,3). In Poltava region primary disablement rate among the adult population has been 50,5 down versus 51,9 per 10 thousand people in 2012. Primary disablement rate among able-bodied citizens has also decreased: 58,5 versus 58,9 per 10000 popula- tion in 2012. In 2013, 6175 individuals were recognized as newly-admitted disabled people among adult population, includ- ing 59,4% of urban residents and 40,6% of rural residents; 4836 individuals were recognized as newly-admitted disabled people among able-bodied citizens, including 56,4% of urban residents and 43,6% of rural residents. In the regional nosology structure of primary disablement the first place is given to the following diseases (index per 10 thousand able-bodied people): circulatory system disorders – 11,0; oncological diseases – 10,1; musculo- skeletal system disorders -10,1; traumas – 6,6; nervous system disorders – 3,2.
