Abstract. The social, medical and economic burden of diabetes is invaluable and needs constant research. In Ukraine, the prevalence of diabetes, according to the International Diabetes Federation, is 7.3%, and the total loss of the economy because of the diabetes and its complications is 36-104 billion UAH per year (1-2.5% of GDP). The purpose of our study was the analysis of the socio – economic aspect of the type 2 diabetes impact on patients’ lives in Uzhhorod, aiming at further development of the effective methods of influence on this problem in the context of state policy in the fight against diabetes. For this purpose, we developed an anonymous questionnaire of 20 special and customized questions, which we distributed among users as an online survey on the Google forms platform, in accordance with all ethical requirements. The sample consisted of 72 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). 42% of respondents spend UAH 1,000-2,000 per month on needs for the treatment of diabetes mellitus2 and its complications; for 58% of clients it is 20-40% of the total budget. The average score of the subjective assessment of the impact of diabetes mellitus on patients’ lives is 6.08±2.48 (on a 10-point scale). 54% of respondents indicate the existence of psychological discomfort regarding the changes they must maintain because of their disease (diet, regular physical activity, medical control, increasing costs). Due to the large number of additional costs, 71% said that they should save on the things they are used to, in order to adequately ensure their treatment. 42% of patients generally consider their diagnosis a “financial burden”. According to 10-point evaluation system, most patients are practically not satisfied with the state financial assistance (average score 3.83±2.56), at the same time they highly rate of the quality of medical care (average score 6.42±3.06). Yes, our results clearly confirm the significant economic impact of type 2 diabetes; high level of medical care quality and critically low level of satisfaction with the level of state financial assistance, which encourages us to further research in this area, developing effective government programs, study the possibility of creating financial resources for new immune and genetic treatments and diabetes prevention.
