Introduction. The extraordinary advances in biomedical sciences and medical technologies in recent decades and their application in medical practice have posed new ethical dilemmas to higher medical school and society as a whole. The number of articles in mass and professional journals testifies to the importance of the topic and the concern of higher medical school teachers. The central role of ethics in medical practice cannot be overestimated. Medicine implies certain fundamental values, such as saving lives and alleviating suffering. These values distinguish medicine from other sciences and involve some special responsibilities, in particular for doctors and other members of the medical profession, and especially for those seeking medical education. Aim. To study the achievements and prospects for the development of higher medical education through the prism of bioethics, on the basis of an analytical review of scientific sources of information. Main part. The most widely accepted concept was proposed by the famous American philosophers Tom Beechamp and James Childress in the work «Principles of Biomedical Ethics». The authors put forward four basic, fundamental principles of biomedical ethics: autonomy, the desire not to harm, work for the benefit of the patient and justice. At the same time, since the second half of the last century, due to continuous progress in medical science, future physicians face more and more ethical issues, the relevance of which is already close to the basic principles of medical and bioethics of Hippocrates and needs immediate deepening and development of new principles of ethical education of doctors and scientists. Conclusions. Medical school in Ukraine, despite the constant dynamic changes in the structure of science and education, still remains at the appropriate level, but the state of the modern health care system in Ukraine forces doctors to work in constantly increasing ethical problems. Teachers of medical higher education institutions are also forced to continuously monitor changes in trends in health and ethics and the health care system in general. However, with the correct and proper provision of medical and biological ethics continuously throughout the training period of the medical education seekers, great success can be achieved in stabilizing the psycho-emotional state of the population and in representing Ukraine’s global interests to the world community.
